Four fellows completed their ACGME-accredited Blood Banking/ Transfusion Medicine Fellowship at New York Blood Center. The Fellowship is in collaboration with Department of Pathology & Cell Biology, Columbia University Medical Center; Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Weill Cornell Medical College; Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System; and Department of Pathology, Westchester Medical Center. Beth H. Shaz, MD, Program Director, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer presented the fellows with their certificates at a small graduation ceremony:
Michael Bellone, DO received his medical degree at NY College of Osteopathic Medicine of NY Institute of Technology, NY, and Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency at Stony Brook University Medical Center. He is now doing a Hematopathology fellowship at Stony Brook University Medical Center.
Marie-Laure Desormeaux, MD has a medical degree from State University of Haiti, Port-au-Prince, Haiti and Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency at Nassau University Medical Center. She started as Assistant Medical Director, Transfusion Service at Westchester Medical Center, joining the NYBC medical group.
Jennifer Garbaini, MD received her medical degree and anatomic and clinical pathology training at Albany Medical College. She is now a pathologist at Capital Region Pathologists, PC in Troy, NY.
Devika Lal, MD has a medical degree from Temple University School of Medicine, PA and completed her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency at Drexel University, Hahnemann University Hospital, PA. She is now an assistant medical director, transfusion services at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick, NJ.
We wish them luck and success for the future and look forward to watching them develop in their careers.
At the same time NYBC welcomed three new fellows for 2013-14:
Katy Fayyaz, MD, who has her medical degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Iran and also did her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency there. She then completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Montefiore Medical Center – North Division, New York, NY.
Huy Phy Pham, MD obtained his medical degree from Chicago Medical School at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and completed his Clinical Pathology Residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center.
Emily Storch, MD has a medical degree from The University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Pittsburgh, PA. She started an Internal Medicine Residency at Yale University and subsequently completed an Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency at University at Buffalo.
