Three Transfusion Medicine Fellows Graduate
Another successful year! Three fellows completed their ACGME-accredited Blood Banking/ Transfusion Medicine Fellowship at New York Blood Center. The Fellowship is in collaboration with Department of Pathology & Cell Biology, Columbia University Medical Center; Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, Weill Cornell Medical College; Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine, North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System; and Department of Pathology, Westchester Medical Center. Bruce Sachais, MD, PhD, Program Director, and Veronica Kuhlemann, Program Coordinator, presented the fellows with their certificates.
Maksim Agaronov, MD obtained his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine, Dominica, West Indies. He did his Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency at Hartford Hospital, in Connecticut. Max is doing a fellowship in Surgical Pathology at Stony Brook School of Medicine in Stony Brook, NY.
Yan Cheng, MD received his medical degree from St. George’s University, School of medicine in Grenada, West Indies. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Richmond University Medical Center, Staten Island, NY. Yan is doing a fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at Westchester Medical Center, in Valhalla, NY.
Lohith S. Bachegowda, MD – obtained his medical degree from Rajiv Gandhi University, Bangalore, India. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Drexel University College of Medicine and his Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at Montefiore Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Lohith is currently doing a research year at New York Blood Center and will be starting a Stem Cell Transplant Fellowship at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX in July 2016.

NYBC also welcomed three new fellows for 2015-16
Ruchika Goel, MD, MPH obtained her medical degree from All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, India. She has an MPH in Epidemiology from School of Public Health, UNC at Chapel Hill, NC. She did her Pediatric Residency at Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC and was a Clinical Fellow in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at Johns Hopkins University/National Cancer Institute.
Chancey Christenson, MD, MPH, received his medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine, New Orleans, LA. He has an MPH in Hospital Management from Tulane University School of Public Health. He completed his Clinical Pathology Residency at Tulane University School of Medicine.
Alexandra Jimenez, MD, who graduated from Universidad Central del Caribe School of Medicine, Bayamon, Puerto Rico, did her Anatomic and Clinical Pathology Residency at University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico. She also has a BSc in Molecular and Cellular Biology from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD.
Only Dr. Goel was able to join us and meet the outgoing fellows.
Best Teacher Award
This year the graduating class of 2015 awarded a special “Best Teacher” award to the Immunohematology/Genomics Laboratory and Dr. Connie Westhoff was present to accept the award.
