Host A Blood Drive

- Get top level support.
- Confirm site arrangements and check that the bloodmobile team has access to the building in advance.
- Create a blood drive team but appoint blood team members who have the time and desire to participate.
- Hold blood team meetings to distribute materials and educate volunteers on the process.
- Promote the blood drive using all available vehicles.
- Recruit donors on a one-to-one basis so that everyone has been asked.
- Provide periodic progress reports to key personnel.
- Cater to donor needs. Provide baby-sitters and face-painters to entertain children so parents of young children can donate easily. Offer pick-up and delivery service so the elderly and disabled can participate.
- Be creative and wrap your drive around a theme.
- Schedule donors for specific appointment times to lower rate of "walk-ins" and "no-shows."
- Make your donor count report as accurate as possible. Staffing for your blood drive is based on the number of expected donors.
- Send reminder cards or e-mails to scheduled donors or make reminder phone calls.
- Always say "thank you".
