Today we are joining many in raising awareness for #WorldSickleCellDay. Sickle cell disease, also known as sickle cell anemia, is the most common inherited blood disorder in the U.S., affecting about 100,000 Americans, mostly African-American. Blood from our donors is very often used to treat sickle cell patients, and having a diverse donor base helps to provide the blood needed. African-American donors play a critical role in supporting patients as they are more likely to carry the antigen most needed. Want to help? Sign up to be a donor today - link in bio #nybloodcenter
