Current Projects

The Host-Pathogen Research Program is focused on the discovery of new chemotherapeutic targets to combat Human Babesiosis, an emerging zoonotic disease. To attain these goals, we have investigated the sophisticated mechanisms that parasites have developed to support their needs, from the perspective of the molecular interplay among lipids, proteins and membranes. Metabolic pathways, which differ from that of the human host, have been exploited as the source of potential molecules that can be used for the development of either new chemotherapeutics or pathogen inactivation methods for blood products.
